Ibiza restaurants - Can Berri Vell
Ibiza effortlessly isolates and satiates all five of our basic human senses. We travel across the island with these senses, and they thrive when exposed to the new. Leading with taste, food is an essential part of visiting and revisiting Ibiza. Food opens the door to exploring a culture, and it induces an excitement in us that’s quenched only by the rich, diverse flavours occupying the plate in front of us.
While Ibiza is a small island, it packs a wealth of inimitable gastronomic experiences. Can Berri Vell, a traditional and authentic 17th century Ibicenco home in the small town of Sant Agusti des Vedrà, has been dishing up delectable dishes for over 35 years. Three decades is ample time to refine a reputation as being one of the best restaurants in Ibiza, and anyone with gourmet taste buds will be readily pointed in the direction of this charming country house.
Imaginative Mediterranean cuisine with emphasis on product and presentation is what to expect from Can Berri Vell’s ingenious chef Bruno Hernandez, and it’s very much a feast for the eyes. Tuna carpaccio with citrus soy vinaigrette, Duck foie-grass mi-cuit with apple and caramelised goat’s cheese and toasted seaweed bread, Ox tartare with yolk cured in soy and mustard ice cream, parsnip cream with candied scallops, and green rice of cuttlefish with monkfish and a citrus garlic foam are a handpicked selection of some of the appealing starters on offer.
Meats on the menu include suckling pig confit in Hojiblanca oil flavored with orange, Fillet of beef with foie gras in a Scotch bonnet and truffle sauce, duck maigret with sautéed peaches and flambé apples, while ocean catches include bluefin tuna fillet in begonia leaves and a soya and sweet wine sauce, and roast turbot on a citrus and carrot caramelized cream flavored with white truffle. And for those who choose to close with dessert, a chocolates mousses, tiramisu, caramelized pineapple with passion fruit mousse and lemon tart beckon.
